If your outage is due to a circuit breaker trip, follow these tips to safely restore your power:
- Turn off lights and unplug appliances in the rooms that have lost power.
- Find your circuit breaker box and open the cover.
- Locate the tripped breaker, usually a horizontal switch marked by the area of the house it serves in the OFF position.
- Reset the breaker by moving the switch to the full OFF position and then moving it back to the ON position. If the breaker re-trips, you may have faulty appliances or wiring. Contact an electrician to identify and fix the problem before resetting the breaker.
If you have an older home and are still using a fuse box circuit breaker, it may be wise to replace the entire breaker system. This type of breaker system is outdated, and the fuses are often difficult to replace.
