Sustainability and Customer Savings

Reducing energy consumption isn’t just good for the environment – it also helps our customers save money. Together, Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois invested approximately $210 million in 2023 to fund robust electric and natural gas energy efficiency (EE) programs that reward customers for installing newer, energy-saving measures. Programs include LED lighting upgrades, energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems, home energy audits, low-income weatherization, programmable thermostat rebates and customer education.

Customer Benefits At-a-Glance

Energy efficiency programs generated over $3 billion in net benefits for all customers from 2013 to 2022.

Robust energy efficiency programs have helped residential and business customers save more than 6.1 million MWh from 2013 to 2022.

Ameren is investing approximately $210 million annually over the next few years to fund electric and natural gas energy efficiency and demand response.

Energy Efficiency Initiatives

Ameren offers several energy efficiency programs that enable customers to take advantage of rebates on LED bulbs, smart thermostats, high-efficiency HVAC systems and other products that use less energy and reduce their energy statements. We also provide incentives for businesses to improve their facility's lighting, building controls, ventilation, cooling systems and refrigeration. Income Eligible Programs

Whether it’s an apartment building, single family home or a nonprofit organization, removing barriers to installing energy-efficient upgrades is often the most challenging part of saving money on energy statements. Ameren’s income-eligible programs help make meaningful efficiency upgrades, at little or no cost to the recipient. The goal is to help families save the equivalent of two payments each year by reducing energy consumption – which can make a big difference. Both Ameren Illinois and Ameren Missouri have a full suite of income-eligible programs available.

Energy Assistance

Ameren partners with nonprofit organizations in Missouri and Illinois to help customers stay current on their energy statements. Customers receive assistance by connecting with local community action agencies that are authorized to administer the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. For neighbors looking to help neighbors, Ameren offers the Dollar More program, inviting customers to contribute an extra dollar to help someone in need pay their utility bill.

Ameren Illinois joins with community organizations to offer one-time grants to income-eligible customers. In addition to the grant, energy efficiency advisors from Ameren Illinois are on hand to provide information on ways customers can reduce energy usage and save on their monthly energy statements.
