Ameren Illinois Recognized for Storm Restoration Efforts
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) honored Ameren Illinois with the association’s Emergency Recovery Award for its exceptional power restoration efforts after a widespread severe weather outbreak in November 2013.
On Nov. 17, severe straight-line winds, baseball-sized hail, and 10 tornadoes with winds up to 190 mph caused damage throughout Ameren Illinois’ service territory. At peak, nearly 150,000 customers lost service in Illinois. Three Ameren Illinois co-workers lost their homes, and many more suffered damage.
To assist with the state’s disaster relief efforts, Ameren Illinois pledged $50,000 to the Illinois Tornado Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
"Ameren Illinois' outstanding restoration efforts exemplify the industry’s commitment to serving its customers," said EEI President Tom Kuhn. "We commend the crews who braved dangerous conditions in the wake of these storms, as they diligently worked to safely and quickly restore service."
